Frequently Asked Questions

Learn everything you need to know about Letterjoy's Federalist Papers series.

History buffs, students, and teachers will love Letterjoy's Federalist Papers series. This series gives you the rare chance to experience the Federalist Papers, perhaps the most influential set of essays ever written, as they were originally received, in a 1780s-style newspaper.

The eighty-five essays of the Federalist Papers are an incredible guide to the Constitution, and an excellent tool for teaching civics and early American history.

Written by three founding fathers, Alexander Hamilton, John Jay, and James Madison, these essays explain in detail how the United States Constitution and the system of government it establishes came to be.

Throughout this series, you'll learn about Federalism, the presidency, Congress, the judiciary, the Electoral College, and more.

The Federalist Papers were first published in the pages of the New-York Packet and other 1780s newspapers.

To replicate the experience of receiving the Federalist Papers in their original form, our designers have recreated the masthead, columns, and typography of the New-York Packet, and laid out the Federalist Papers in this original format, on 1780s-inspired newsprint.

Each week, you'll receive an envelope via first-class mail. Open it up, and you'll find one of the eighty-five Federalist Papers essays inside, within the pages of a replica New-York Packet.

It's a beautiful, immersive, screen-free way to enjoy the Federalist Papers.

Of course! Treat yourself to any of our packages. You deserve something to look forward to as you check the mail each week.

Hey there!

It's Michael here, the founder of Letterjoy, invading our FAQ to explain why this series exists.

In college, one of my favorite classes was a seminar titled "Federalist and Antifederalist Writings". It was my first full read-through of the Federalist Papers, and I loved every minute of it.

This year, a decade removed from that class, I was brainstorming with our team, trying to devise a fun new product to celebrate the 250th anniversary of American independence, and I thought back to that class, and to the thousands of students and history buffs I've spoken with in the years since. "Is there a cool new way we could higlight the Federalist Papers?"

Queue a few months of product development: We painstakingly replicated the look and feel of first editions of the Federalist Papers, which appeared in the New-York Packet and Independent Journal, and tested prototype after prototype for readability and authenticity.

Now, finally, we're ready to launch the series! I sincerely hope that you enjoy reading these as much as we loved making these.

Cheers,

Michael Sitver
