Letterjoy is a screen-free learning subscription that allows students to learn from primary-source historical documents.
Each week, your student will receive a replica in the mail of a real letter from American history replicated on letter-appropriate stationery or parchment.
Each letter (for most collections) will also include "the postscript," our signature article, telling the story of your student's latest letter. They'll learn about the historical figure that wrote their latest letter, the recipient, and the historical events discussed within it.
Examples of figures they may receive letters from include Benjamin Franklin, Abraham Lincoln, Susan B. Anthony, and Jane Austen.
Letterjoy turns history from something your student reads about in a textbook into something they experience firsthand.
Absolutely! Many Classwallet parents prefer to order several Letterjoy bundles at once and mix-and-match which letters their students read.
Yes. The historical letters we mail to your student's door are reproductions of real letters (or telegrams) written by legendary figures and eloquent eyewitnesses. They are sourced from some of the finest archives, special collections, and private sources on the planet.
For more information on sourcing, and the philosophical debate over what constitutes authenticity (and our stance on it), reach out to Support[at]letterjoy[dot]co.
Letterjoy is most popular with high school students and advanced seventh and eighth graders.
Letterjoy letters can be an advanced read for younger readers, but some parents of younger readers do enjoy reading them with their children.
Our American History series is specifically designed to supplement advanced-level coursework, including AP United States History.
Our signature American History collection tells the story of our nation from 1776 through 1960.
A few of the major eras covered include the American Revolution (obviously), the early republic, the Civil War, World War I, the Industrial Revolution, World War II, the Civil Rights movement, and the Cold War.
A few of the specific events this collection includes letters from are The Alamo, Pearl Harbor, John Brown's raid, and the Constitutional Convention.
For the most detailed and up-to-date list of topics you'll receive letters about, please refer to our blog.
In addition to this collection, we offer a growing list of additional topic-specific collections. Our current offering includes:

Great Writers On Writing: Get writing advice from best-selling authors like Jane Austen, Edgar Allan Poe, and F. Scott Fitzgerald.
Letters On Science & Innovation: Explore the history of science & innovation through the letters of the inventors & titans of industry who made it.

New orders placed through the Classwallet marketplace begin at the start of the following calendar month.
Letters are sent via first-class mail once per week. Newly activated orders usually go out in the first mailing of the month you selected at checkout.
For instance, if you place your order on June 15th, your student's first letters would be mailed in early July.
Orders placed in the last week of a calendar month may require a few days of additional processing.
We work with a bevy of talented historians and journalists, guided by our editors and researchers, to properly tell the story of each of your letters.
In addition to our main "Letters From American History" collection, we offer a few other limited-run collections that are great supplements to your home school or charter school curriculum.
